چکیده

We investigate the dependences of galaxy star-formation history and galaxy morphology on environment, using color and Hα equivalent width as starformation history indicators, using concentration and central surface brightness as morphological indicators, and using clustocentric distance as an environment indicator. Clustocentric distance has the virtue that it can be measured with very high precision over a large dynamic range. We find the following asymmetry between morphological and star-formation history parameters: star-formation history parameters relate directly to the clustocentric distance while morphological parameters relate to the clustocentric distance only indirectly through their relationships with star-formation history. This asymmetry has important implications for the role that environment plays in shaping galaxy properties and it places strong constraints on theoretical models of galaxy formation. Current semi-analytic models do not reproduce this effect. The Dependence of Galaxy Morphology and Structure on Environment and Stellar Mass

From the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Data Release 5 (DR5), we extract a sample of 4594 galaxies at redshifts 0.02 < z < 0.03, complete down to a stellar mass of M = 10 M⊙. We quantify their structure (Sérsic index), morphology (Sérsic index + “Bumpiness”), and local environment. We show that morphology and structure are intrinsically different galaxy properties, and we demonstrate that this...

ساخت و تحلیل فهرست ستارهای از کهکشان M33

In this study, 1200 images and catalogues of M33 spiral galaxy taken by WFCAM camera at UKIRT telescope in J, H and K bands. Cross correlation methods were employed to identify stars in overlapping regions from among images taken in different dates. Careful astrometric and photometric analysis was made to calibrate stellar positions and magnitudes using their 2MASS near infra red survey. The fi...

The Deep2 Galaxy Redshift Survey: Evolution of the Color-density Relation At

Using a sample of 19,464 galaxies drawn from the DEEP2 Galaxy Redshift Survey, we study the relationship between galaxy color and environment at 0.4 < z < 1.35. We find that the fraction of galaxies on the red sequence depends strongly on local environment out to z > 1, being larger in regions of greater galaxy density. At all epochs probed, we also find a small population of red, morphological...

Color bimodality: Implications for galaxy evolution

We use a sample of 69726 galaxies from the SDSS to study the variation of the bimodal color-magnitude (CM) distribution with environment. Dividing the galaxy population by environment (Σ5) and luminosity (−23 < Mr < −17), the u− r color functions are modeled using double-Gaussian functions. This enables a deconvolution of the CM distributions into two populations: red and blue sequences. The ch...

Rhetorical Structure Analysis of EFLs’ Written Narratives of a Picture Story

This study was set to reveal how second language learners use rhetorical relations in their written narratives in terms of Rhetorical Structure Theory (RST) primarily proposed by Mann & Thompson (1987) and developed by Mann, Matthiessen & Thompson (1992). To this end, sixty written narratives based on the picture story book ‘Frog, where are you?’ were collected from EFL learners and were put to...
